Oral hygiene

Professional oral hygiene is very important process performed by the dental hygienist or the dentist.

During the procedure an ultrasonic scalar and hand instruments help to remove:

  • the plaque from teeth and gingival pockets;
  • microorganisms and their toxins;
  • dental calculus;
  • pigment plaque.

All tooth surfaces are polished. Oral hygiene products (toothpaste, a mouthwash, and interdental brushes of proper size) are selected for the patient individually. During the visit, you will be explained and shown how to correctly care of your teeth, which products should be used for dental care. It is very important to perform professional oral hygiene on a regular basis – usually 1-2 times a year or more often if recommended by your dentist.

Avoid gingivitis

Due to insufficient attention to oral hygiene, begins the inflammation of gums (or gingivitis), when gums are swollen, start bleeding, change their colour, and become painful. Untreated gingivitis develops into periodontitis. Then the situation becomes very threatening as the inflammatory process involves not only the gums, but also the bone around the tooth causing its loss, because it starts to melt. Thus, the teeth are not so strong, they begin to wobble and fall out. As in the case of gingivitis, bleeding gums, sometimes they can be purulent, an unpleasant smell from the mouth is felt.

Dental calculus

Dental calculus is an important prerequisite for developing gum disease. This is a perfect breeding environment for various microorganisms; calculus can interfere with blood circulation in gums and provoke the inflammation of gums or even periodontal. Without the dentist’s help a person cannot remove them and only the professional oral hygiene can help.

Calculus is formed when minerals from food or saliva enter on a plaque. For this reason, after professional oral hygiene, for treating periodontitis or prevention, experts recommend using special toothpastes and rinsing liquids containing medicinal herb extracts, enzymes that tighten gums, prevent bacteria from multiplying and treat gingivitis. However, the result will be achieved only if the person uses not only special tools, but also brushes teeth properly and regularly visit the dental hygienist.
